Since the Peña Family purchased the 55 room historic 15th Century story book Castle in 1984, there have been many requests for entry to it from all over the world - including from as far a field as Australia. The requests covered; film & movie makers, documentary producers, wedding organisers, hoteliers, private citizens, photographers, corporate hospitality organisers and Members of The Guthrie Clan (for good reason). With a few exceptions for day visits, all requests have been politely refused and access to the grounds has been very limited.

Now the doors are open for you to take a restful stroll through the 2.2 acre Walled garden and stop at the top for a game on the giant chessboard or merely sit and relax gazing down across the majestic garden to Guthrie Castle.

Beyond the Walled Garden, you can continue a leisurely walk to the East gate of the estate past the stables and 160-year-old uninhabited manse (Ministers House) and shortly thereafter, Hay Cottage, on your way to the village of Guthrie just beyond the gates. There you will find the Guthrie Aisle (ancient church), built in 1150 and purchased by Sir David Guthrie in 1498, adjacent to the Guthrie Cemetery.

Ceremony and Celebrations

Guthrie Castle offers a number of outstanding settings most suitable for your ceremony, from the Great Hall or the beautiful Drawing Room inside to the delightful, historic Walled Garden outside. There are areas within the garden that provide an ideal environment for smaller groups, whilst our "Garden Aisle" will hold up to 200 - the internal rooms can accommodate up to 100 guests for the ceremony.

The Castle is a private home that is offered on an exclusive basis at surprisingly competitive rates. It has been described as a photographers dream location and by The Scotsman as "One of Scotland's hidden architectural gems…a fairytale castle".

What's on offer

The Castle can cater for up to 80 for a formal reception or 120 for a buffet style reception. Much larger functions can be catered for in marquees that could be sited on the lawns adjoining the Castle or in the Walled Garden. Accommodation for up to 24 people is available in 12 double / twin rooms. In house co-ordinators will help you organise photographers, pipers, florists, entertainment etc.
